#LightTheWorld

I miss my parents. How grateful I am for the light, example and love they showed me throughout my life.  Verlin and Dot Simmons… aren’t they just the cutest?? Quite a few years ago I was in the midst of re-painting the house and other major projects. I don’t remember what particular deadline I had looming but I do remember kneeling down to pray one night—completely exhausted. I had done everything I possibly could but it wasn’t enough. I plead for help in my prayers. I didn’t know what God would do to bail me out of my situation, but I desperately needed help. Early the next morning, my parents came through my front door. I was taken aback. I had deliberately NOT told them of my situation because I knew they were in the middle of big project of their own—moving their home based business office out to the shop. Responding to my tears and look of surprise, my mom told me she “had a strong feeling that I needed them.” So they set aside their own things and came to my rescue. My parent...

I am a sucker for shells. And rocks. And leaves. Basically all of the fascinating details one comes across in nature...  I’ve been to this beach in Puerto Penasco, Mexico multiple times and it never fails to amaze me how the ocean continues to produce shells with every tide.    Shouldn’t the ocean have run out by now??  I've always been drawn to the many perfect shells. Of course we’ve hauled some home.  And also turned them into art here at the beach (here's the view from Catherine & Grant's condo.) (Farrell shudders just a little when we head out for a walk and I ask if he minds tucking a grocery sack into his pocket. Ahhh, he's a good assistant.)  Recently, I saw a land artist, Justin Bateman on Instagram. So cool. I loved how he looked down at the pebbles on the ground and created art using the rocks like strokes of paint.  https://www.instagram.com/p/CxVj9TwtvfA/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== Taking inspiration from that I went along the beach with ...

Goodbye Thailand

Thursday July 13, 2023 I actually slept in this morning until 9:00 am. Wow. I’ve been waking up anywhere between 4-6:00 am and not able to go back to sleep. I guess I’m officially done with jet lag… to start all over again!  Farrell woke up earlier though. He returned to the Tiger Temple so he could just do a quick workout. Up all those stairs. Ugh.  And of course he said it was so much fun.  On his way back to our hotel he stumbled upon a delightful parade. They were school students and each school had its own marching band. He heard “the Stars and Stripes” and “when the saints go marching in.” He said it was awesome.  Also, a couple of elephants out for a morning stroll.  There are things you miss when you sleep in! We did a little last minute shopping while Farrell made a trip to the laundromat (we had wet things that we didn’t want to stuff into bags for the next 38 hours. We then went for lunch at our favorite spot, Basmati Restaurant.  If you ever go ...

Visiting Islands via Long-tail Boat

Image
We’ve been looking at options for tours. We found a private driver for a long-tail boat. He would take us to some islands. Up until we were picked up by a tuk tuk this morning (Wednesday July 12) and delivered to the dock, we were worried we had been scammed. Ahh, coordinating with strangers over WhatsApp with a huge language barrier. But! We made it and there was a boat and driver waiting for us! It was fascinating watching how the motor and propeller mechanism on these boats worked. The driver could lift the prop out of the water to pass over others anchor ropes. He could move the prop to nearly parallel to the boat to turn us around. And move the prop anywhere to steer.  Ko Pada Island Our driver dropped us off and suggested we take a picture of the boat number so we could find him again and said we had 2-3 hours here. Off we went! The water was incredibly clear and just the perfect temperature to swim and relax in.  I asked Farrell to please let his hands dry since he had ...
